Look no further than your kitchen cupboards for some excellent chemical free make up options; beetroot, cacao and spirulina provide some surprisingly perfect natural alternatives for preparing our faces for the daily grind.

Why apply (and therefore consume) chemically enhanced lip stick, when you can stain your lips varying shades of pink with some organic beetroot direct from the garden or vegetable drawer? You can also apply beetroot stain to cheeks and it actually lasts for hours.

If you have some cacao powder hiding in the cupboard, just mix up a tiny little bit with some coconut oil and try it out for natural brown eye liner - not bad at all.

Next time your eyelids need a little color, perhaps you could experiment using a flicker of spirulina powder mixed with water (green), or turmeric powder mixed with water (yellow)? Not only does it look good, your eyes will thank you for it later.

We spend a lot of money on expensive makeup and facials, but maybe it's time to explore some other more natural methods of beautification. So, after your next all natural DIY avocado facial and clay mud mask, why not do your skin a favor and try out a dab or two of vegetable make up?
