For many of us,
school holidays mean some form of
travel - whether that be by plane, train, boat, car or otherwise.
Here we look at some of the best advice
pre-travel on how to remain
healthy and
sane on your journey!
While these tips are largely
focused on
air travel, they can be applied to the other forms just as well.

1) Hydrate hydrate hydrate
Hydration is
easily number one on this list and is just so important in general.
Particularly the day
before and
of travel, flush out your system with
fresh water,
herbal teas, or even
veggie or
miso soups if you prefer.
It's also a smart idea to pack an
empty reusable bottle in your hand luggage which you can then refill at a
water station, or ask at a
cafe or
onboard.

2) Cram in those veggies
We all know vegetables are good for us, so it makes sense to
fill your plates with them as much as possible.
Your
best choices are green leafy vegetables, capsicums, onions, and herbs and spices such as garlic, ginger, chilli and cinnamon, which all work to
boost immunity with their
high antioxidant content. Likewise with any
dark-coloured berry.

3) Sleep strong
For many of us, travel can be a
stressful and exhausting time. Being
well-rested and
mentally alert will ease any tension and help prevent mistakes or forgetfulness along the way.
Your body will also
adapt better to
time difference when it is functioning optimally - another reason to
invest in those zzz's before your departure.

4) Plan smart
Another way to minimise stress is to be as
organised as possible
before arriving at the airport or station.
Have
passports, tickets and other important documents bundled together; map out how you will get
to and from your point of departure; make
meals/snacks/drinks ahead of time to carry with you; have
medication ready at hand if needed, etc.
It is also incredibly important to be aware of any
visas and/or
vaccinations you may need for the countries/cities you are visiting.

5) Move that body
Similar to the tips on hydration and healthy eating, engaging in
exercise and/or
regular movement is an
obvious, though very effective, way of maximising your
travel sanity.
Go for a nice
long walk or
jog the day before heading off, or take part in a
group sport you enjoy. Set aside
15 minutes on the day to
stretch or do some gentle
yoga to get your circulation flowing and muscles warm.
