Almonds: A complete guide

Available naturally in kernels or slivered, flaked, ground; or even as a flour, milk, butter or oil, almonds are an incredibly versatile and popular nut (though actually a seed!).

From a health perspective, these sweet, creamy nuggets are low in carbs and high in fibre and protein, making them an ideal addition to any healthy diet, but especially for those following a plant-based lifestyle.

Health benefits
Rich source of biotin, naturally balancing blood sugar levels.
Rich source of vitamin E, vital for skin health and integrity.
Rich source of copper, supporting energy production.
Good source of magnesium, linked to lowering blood pressure levels.
Good source of fibre, helping digestion and keeping you regular.

How to enjoy
Enjoy a simple handful combined with other nuts and/or dried fruit.
Scattered over your breakfast porridge, muesli or yoghurt.
Stirred into cake, biscuit or energy bar/ball batters.
Chopped and tossed through veggie or pasta salads.
Blended with coconut oil to make a delicious homemade almond butter, or blended with water to make homemade almond milk.

When selecting almonds you are best to choose them raw, and store them in a cool place such as the fridge or freezer to prevent them from becoming rancid.
