'Chakra' is a Sanskrit word meaning 'wheel' or 'disk', and is an integral thought in Ayurveda, meditation and yoga.

There are seven main chakras in the body - from the base of the spine to the crown of the head - corresponding in location with major nerve centres. These key points are believed to hold a 'vortex' of subtle energy - ideally kept free-flowing and in balance.

Today we will look at the crown chakra, Sahasrara.

Sahasrara is located at the top of the head, and is one of the three chakras of spirituality. It is responsible for our higher consciousness and presence.

Its colour is violet or white, and bija mantra is Om or Aum.

Imbalances in the crown chakra may manifest in:
Overt cynicism and/or closed-mindedness.
Obsession with the spiritual/sacred.
Depression and/or constant worry.
Persistent headaches, migraines and/or light sensitivity.

To balance the crown chakra, try:
Sitting in silence. Silence is the most powerful way to open the seventh chakra.
Spending time in prayer - whatever form that may take for you.
Dressing in, or surrounding yourself with whites, purples, and shades between.
