Eucalyptus trees are widely found all over Australia in abundance and are full of healing properties. Very rarely do we make use of this natural medicine that is found right in our very own backyard.

Nowadays people are becoming more aware of the harmful ingredients found in pharamceutical medications, and are opting for natural and organic ways to cure illness - which is how it was done by our ancestors. So this winter I want to share with you a natural homemade Eucalytus leaf steam therapy which can be used for the whole family.

TO MAKE EUCALYPTUS LEAVES AROMATHERAPY

Take a bunch of freshly cut Eucalyptus leaves and place in a small heatproof pot.

Pour boiling water into the pot and inhale the steam. Replace boiling water as and when needed.

DISINFECTANT AND AIR FRESHENER

Regardless of whether you are sick or not, keeping this steam in your living room will act as a disinfectant as well as an air freshener to keep the air free of nasty germs throughout winter. If you have other herbs like rosemary or thyme growing in your backyard feel free to pop them in the steam. If not, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil for extra benefits.

HEALING BENEFITS

Eucalyptus is known for it's medicinal properties; any popular cough, cold and flu medications have a good amount of eucalyptus oil in them to cure the illness. So if you are suffering from a congested or runny nose this cold and flu season, just inhale the steam from eucalyptus leaves for a few minutes to open up your nasal passages. To take advantage of it all night long, place it next to your bed.

DRAIN DEODORISER

When you replace the old leaves with new ones , pour down the left over water into the sink to deodorise it. The water does have the disinfectant properties of Eucalyptus which will leave your sink smelling fresh and clean.
