Do you have chronic pain? Pain that you have had a long time and nothing seems to take it away? Is it pain that no one seems to be able to do anything about? Or is it something that has just started that you want to address right away?
Don't let pain badger you!
There are so many people out there to help with our ills these days; chiropractors, homeopaths, doctors, acupuncturists, naturopaths and the list goes on. Yet sometimes, none of these practitioners or modalities are what we need.
Then something different comes along.
The practice of Feldenkrais (rhymes with rice) is a movement based therapy and one that has been around for several years.
Bridge the gap between your pain and your life
Moshe Feldenkrais devoted his time to developing and teaching his therapy until his passing in 1984. He was a mechanical and electrical engineer and a sportsman who became interested in the way we move after he injured his knee.
"Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself" - Moshe Feldenkrais.
He believed that our movements could be relearned by re-educating ourselves in the ways he devised. Our nervous system sends messages from our brain to our muscles where the movements can be retrained to move without pain. It is creating new neural pathways, new thinking, new movements. In short, taking us out of habits we have obtained over time regarding our movements and back to the time when we were first learning how to move our bodies.
Get back to the things you like to do!
According to Wikipedia, "Feldenkrais is used to improve movement patterns rather than to treat specific injuries or illnesses. It is about finding easier and more pleasurable ways to move, improving quality of life and having a direct influence on cognitive and emotional function."
The Australian Feldenkrais Guild is full of information, including videos for you to check out. You can look for a class or a practitioner that is close to your area Australia wide, who will then work closely with you to determine where your pain is and what is happening, teaching you the ways to improve your movements.
Classes are also taught weekly at the Relaxation Centre of Queensland that you don't have to book for. Located in Alderley, you can drop in for $12 per class every Friday from 10:00am - 11:15am. Bring a mat, wear comfy clothing.
Take a bite out of your pain!
The benefits of Feldenkrais are numerous - better health and wellbeing, pain reduction, stress alleviation. It will help prevent future injuries and enhance your performance. Everyone with impaired movement can benefit from the young to healthy, to the arthritic to the elderly.
Why not eliminate your pain and be able to move and do all that you want to do?
