Our home should be our sanctuary, the place we feel most relaxed and comfortable. But over time our homes - just like our bodies - accumulate negative energies and the space becomes stagnant; the process is so insidious you may not be aware of it happening, but you will certainly feel the difference after a ritual smudging.
Adopted from Native American tradition, smudging is a burning of herbs, the smoke purifying whatever area, object or person is being cleansed. White sage smudge sticks can be purchased online, or from natural and health stores - if you can't get hold of one, an incense stick or a bowl with dried herbs or tobacco on a charcoal disc can be used instead.

Start by taking a few deep breaths then cleansing yourself - light the smudge stick and move all around your body from head to toe, and back to front, cleansing your energy bodies.
Move throughout each room in your home in a clockwise direction and using your hand, a feather, or a fan, brush the smoke into every corner and space, holding thoughts of balance, cleansing and purifying, and ridding your home of negative energies - you may even want to say it out loud.
Extinguish your smudge stick in salt, sand or dirt when done and store somewhere dry and cool for next time.

It is often the small things we do in our home that can make a big difference to the way it feels and the way we feel in it. Cleansing our home energy with a smudge stick is a simple cleansing ritual which takes a mere five minutes and leaves your space clean and clear.
