Improve well-being
Increase experiences of positive emotion
Build successful coping skills
Cultivate feelings of optimism
Foster self-esteem
Increase general life satisfaction

All of which leads to increased happiness and fulfillment. So work on maintaining the friendship and family support you already have, and make an effort to forge new positive social connections wherever possible - the pay-off is well worth it!
