My first attempt at making my own soap a few years ago did not go very well, the reason being that I used the wrong sort of base. I used a soap base with a moisturiser in it, and it all just lathered up into a bit of a mess.
I have now re-educated myself in soap making. The important thing is the base, it needs to be a plain unscented glycerine soap. I searched the shops and found glycerine soap and unscented soap, but unscented glycerine soap? Nope.
So I expanded my search to the online market and found exactly what I needed in seconds. Now, after successfully making my own beeswax soap, I can definitely recommend
the Clear Transparent Melt and Pour Soap base by
The Soapery. They also provided me with a stunning
natural colorant to make the soap look attractive.
Using the base, I was able to make a beeswax soap very easily. The tricky bit is pouring the soap into moulds before it starts to set.
Ingredients
100g unscented glycerine soap
1 teaspoon unbleached beeswax
½ teaspoon natural colorant (liquid or powder)
½ teaspoon vitamin E
A few drops essential oil of choice
Method
Melt the soap in a double boiler over hot water.
Stir in the beeswax until melted and fully combined.
Stir in the colorant, vitamin E, and essential oil.
Quickly pour into moulds and allow to set.
