Homemade ice creams

With summer comfortably set on its throne and the heat pressing us from all sides, it’s a miracle we have enough energy to make it until cooler evening comes. Of course, we do what we can – we turn the air condition on, we drink fresh lemonade with plenty of ice, and we eat tons of ice cream. Sadly, eating tons of ice cream has its downsides as well, such as putting on weight, but we are ready to compromise because everyone knows that nothing beats a good old bowl of ice cream on a hot day.

Make your own vanilla

Everyone’s favorite flavor is very easy to make at home, and after you’ve finished, you can always add some chocolate chips, syrup, chopped fruit, etc., to make it more exotic and delicious. All you need is some heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. In a large bowl put a cup of whole milk, a pint of cream, half a cup of sugar, tablespoon of vanilla extract, and just a pinch of salt (it balances the flavor beautifully). It should stay in a fridge for at least an hour, but you can leave it overnight as well and have it as desert after lunch tomorrow.

5-minute ice creams

As if this recipe could get any better, you can use any fruit you like: strawberries, peaches, kiwis; anything! Mix four cups of fruit (fresh or frozen, it makes no difference, only the already-frozen one will be cooler) with 3 tablespoons of honey, half a cup of yoghurt (full fat or none-fat), and a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. Mix it in a blender and serve straightaway, or put them in a freezer and save them for later (this mixture can stay about a month in a freezer).

Skinny way

Another amazing way to make your summer desert healthier (thus making yourself skinnier at the same time) is to use nothing but fruit and water to make popsicles. Simply put whatever fruit you want in a popsicle mold and add water! You can use flavored water if you like, or even coconut water, and the best part is – you can use any fruit you want and make any combination you want! There you have it - sugar-free, all-fruit, super-healthy snacks for you, your family, and friends in a blink of an eye.

Tools get half the work done

While there is something satisfying about preparing everything the way our grandmas and great-grandmas did, that is without using electricity, quality cookware will sure get you far. Scales will tell you the exact amount of sugar you have used (instead of ‘spoonful here’ and ‘three spoonfuls there’) and you will be in better control of your sugar intake. If preparing ice cream for more people, do put it in separate bowls straightaway – it will make serving ten times easier than having to use spoons to get it out of that one big bowl. However, if you want it to freeze real good – put it in a stainless steel bowl; it keeps everything really cold for a long time. In addition, a good blender will do the mixing of ingredients much better than you would by hand.
Homemade things are always better and a lot healthier than mass produced ones, because we simply cannot use that many additives and chemicals in our food. Organic food can be found online and you can use vegetables from your garden since it will always be more delicious and juicier than the ones you bought in a store, and your ice cream will taste ten times better, because you know how much love and effort you put into it.
