If you haven't heard about the healing benefits of bone broth, then read ahead.
Bone broth is made by boiling meat bones for 8-12 hours to extract the minerals and nutrients. The process of cooking the bones for a long time releases the natural glutamine, collagen, calcium, and magnesium which would normally be left behind.
Some of the health benefits of consuming this golden liquid include: eases arthritic symptoms, heals leaky gut syndrome, builds muscle, and it also helps boost the immune system.
As it cools it will turn into a jelly-like consistency, this is gelatin in its natural form
Bone broth is extremely easy and cheap to make. I use beef bones and first simmer these and remove all the meat once it is cooked, to use for soup. Then I put the bones into a slow cooker and cover with water along with some onions or leeks, bay leaves, rosemary, salt and pepper. Carrots, celery or other vegetables can also be added as this will improve the flavor and bump up the nutritional value.
Simmer for 8-12 hours and then the bone broth is ready. Strain off the vegetables so a clear soup is left. This can then be stored in the fridge for up to a week or it can be frozen.
Warmed broth is a delightful pick-me-up on a cold day
Just heat, drink and enjoy the health benefits of this healing, nourishing liquid.
