I have straight hair which gets oily so that I need to shampoo every two days. It has been really bad for me. I am suffering from hair fall also. Honestly, I have never had any kind of treatment on my hair, no hair colors - I do not even blow dry my hair. Having tried everything including the OTC medicines, I wanted to try and cut down on the number of times I use shampoo or conditioner on my hair. I am not sure if I can completely eliminate it from my routine but I will find out as I experiment.
This does not mean that I am not going to clean my hair. Instead, I am going to try various other natural things instead of shampoo. Today was the first day with the experiment and I wanted to begin with baking soda. But since baking soda can be too drying for my hair, I decided not to use it with plain water; instead, I mixed it with fresh lemon juice. The consistency was neither too runny nor like a smooth paste. I applied it with bare hands all over my scalp and let it sit there for 5 minutes. Then, I washed my hair with plain cool water. I did not like the smell of baking soda in my hair but it faded as my hair dried. Also, I sprayed my hair with a mix of water and lavender essential oil for smell.

There is no more oil in my hair and it is definitely clean. Lemon juice worked really well as a conditioner. Since baking soda is very strong, I would not recommend doing this too often, and follow it with a lemon rinse when you do (do a baking soda rub, wash it out then rinse your hair with lemon water). But, I found this to be a great alternative to regular shampoo.
I am going to try another shampoo alternative and share my results in the next article. Have you ever done something like this? Please leave your comments, as I would love to know what worked for you.
