If you're looking for a delicious healthy snack that is high in protein and low in sugar and saturated fat, then look no further - fav-va nuts are broadbeans that have been lightly seasoned and roasted to crunchy perfection.

fa-va nuts

My sister has travelled extensively in South America and told me of the fabulous fav-va which is apparently a common snack in many Latin and Mediterranean countries. I'd never been able to source them in Australia until I came across a Partner Foods stall at Brisbane's Regional Flavours Festival where I sampled their two fav-va flavours - Lightly Salted and Moroccan Roast - I was hooked immediately and made several purchases that day, stocking up on the Moroccan Roast variety.

The fav-va nuts come in a 200gm pack (great for parties and gatherings) or a box containing half a dozen 25gm snack bags - these pocket sized packs are perfect for school lunch boxes or if you're like me and carry snacks at all times, for your handbag.

fav-va nuts

I love the simplicity of this inexpensive gluten free snack - there are 6 ingredients, I know what they all are and there are no artificial additives. One 25gm packet contains a good dose of protein and less than 1 gram of saturated fat and sugar.

The website lists Woolworths, Mrs Flannerys, Fundamental Food Stores, Macro Wholefoods Market and selected IGA supermarkets as retailers but I had to go to 2 Woolworths and 2 IGAs before I found them at the third Woolworths (Moorooka); it might be worth phoning around before you go searching for them!
