How To (64)      Social media (2)
The use of social media is on the rise, with many people checking their Facebook accounts numerous times a day, getting caught up in what is happening online, rather than what is happening right in front of them, and the joys of real life. A 2012 study by Boost Mobile, found that over 50% of 16-25 year olds were self confessed 'addicts' to Facebook, checking their accounts up to 50 times a day. Whilst many of us can limit ourselves and our cyber activities without needing to resort to drastic measures, sometimes a break from Facebook could actually be just what the doctor ordered.

5 reasons to take a break from Facebook:

To use your time in more productive ways.
To reconnect with friends through traditional communication means, such as in person or on the phone.
To have a respite from status updates, likes, shares and news that you don't always need to know.
To curb any possible 'addiction' to social media.
To stop wasting time.

Depending on the nature of your Facebook usage, many users that take a break from Facebook report an increase in self esteem from no longer comparing themselves to the picture perfect lifestyle that 'friends' project into social media.

How to take a Facebook break

If you fancy taking a Facebook break to get yourself out of cyberspace for a while, then it's a simple process to follow:

1) Login to your Facebook account
2) Head to the Settings area
3) Under Settings, go to Security, and at the bottom of this page, you will notice the link to 'Deactivate my Account'

4) Once you click through this link, you just need to fill in a quick online form and then your account is deactivated.

When you deactivate your account, your Timeline will disappear from Facebook but all of your Timeline information (friends, photos, interests) will be saved for when you come back.

A simple few steps to get you free from Facebook for a few days, a week, or for as long as you want to have a Facebook holiday for.

Have you ever taken a break from Facebook, or does your use of social media not eat in to your daily life?
