One of the best things about cooler weather - in our opinion - is getting to enjoy hot chocolate every day. But this is no crap-filled, store-bought, plastic-tasting hot chocolate. This is the real deal.

Raw cacao is rightly lauded for its impressive nutritional profile; it's loaded with antioxidants, magnesium, zinc and iron, all while keeping its delicious chocolate-y flavour.

Here we've put together the most stripped-back version of a raw hot choc, which you can freely consume guilt-free. If you do need to add one or two of the extras while you adjust to the naturally bitter taste, go ahead, simply opt for high quality ingredients.

Bowls 1
Minutes 5

1 tablespoon raw cacao powder, heaped
250ml water

For creaminess: use 1 cup warmed almond milk instead of water.

For sweetness: add 1-2 tsp maple syrup.

For spiciness: add pinch pink Himalayan salt and a pinch ground cinnamon.

For thickness: stir through 1-2 tsp raw peanut or almond butter.

Boil the water in a kettle, then set aside for 3-5 minutes or until slightly cooled.

Place the cacao in your favourite mug or cup, then pour over the water and mix well.

Add any extras you wish, and enjoy while warm.
