Quick Tip #101: Understanding tai chi

Initially developed in 13th c. China as a martial art, tai chi is now widely recognised for its health benefits.

A combination of relaxation, deep breathing and gentle movements, studies have shown it to reduce stress, improve balance and increase muscle strength. It’s also an accessible physical activity for the elderly, overweight, or those recovering from injury.

It’s recommended to attend at least one instructed class before following a book, DVD or creating your own practice, as different schools will have slightly different approaches, and maintaining form is paramount.
