Kitchens can be a breeding ground for many unwelcome germs and bacteria if not well looked after.

Kitchen sponges can be particularly dangerous as the porous and consistently damp material makes a perfect hiding place.

To keep sponges clean and bacteria free, toss them in a microwave on high for 10-20 seconds. The germs will be instantly killed, so you can remove and continue to use as normal.

Of course, you may also wish to replace your sponges regularly, but if you would like to reuse them, this is a great tip.
