Quick Tip #55: How to wash your fruit and veg for safety

Some studies have suggested that pesticide residues found on our conventional vegetables and fruits may cause cancer. Though we do have the organic food option, it is not within everyone's reach and purse.

So, how about doing some good thorough washing? Yes, washing our conventional food properly will help to remove the dirt, germs and pesticide residues - thus making it safer for consumption.

Put your vegetables and fruits in a big bowl of water mixed with 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Leave to stand for 15 - 20 minutes before washing under running water. Or if you're in a hurry, scrub with a vinegar and water solution.
