Dry weather, cold weather, working in the garden and more; all these things can be harsh on hands and feet. Below is a recipe for a refreshing hand and foot scrub using the all natural ingredients coconut oil, salt, lavender and peppermint essential oils. It is quick and easy to make and will last for several months when kept in a sealed container at room temperature and out of direct sunlight.

Melt the coconut oil in a saucepan at a very low temperature until just melted. Pour into a bowl with the salt. Mix together. Add the essential oils and dried lavender flowers and mix again. Pour mixture into a sealed container. Allow to cool to room temperature. The coconut oil will become more solid as it reaches room temperature.
Store in a sealed container at room temperature and out of direct sunlight to preserve the essential oils and keep the coconut oil in solid form until ready to use. Do not refrigerate, this makes it difficult to remove a portion for use. This scrub will still last even if the oil is in a semi-liquid state.
Taking approximately 1 teaspoon, scrub hands and feet and rinse with warm water. Repeat as necessary. This will leave hands and feet feeling silky smooth, lightly scented, and feeling refreshed.

Tip #1: Sugar may be substituted for the salt in this recipe, however I have found that sugar has an increasingly overpowering scent in the scrub as time passes, whereas salt does not, no matter how much time has passed.
Tip #2: I have used this recipe as a once-a-week facial scrub with good results. The addition of the peppermint oil leaves a cooling feel on the face.
Tip #3: This refreshing scrub makes a great gift to friends and family.
