Revitalise yourself from head to toe for spring

by Colleen P Moyne (Colmo) (follow)
I'm a freelance writer living in the beautiful river town of Mannum in SA, dreaming of the day I can retire from the 9-5 to write full time.

Spring has always been a time for renewal and for fresh beginnings. We’re encouraged to spring clean our homes, and plant bulbs in our garden ready for summer.

Feeling the first warm rays of the sun and experiencing lengthening days is certainly rejuvenating, and as the layers of winter clothing peel off we begin to also take a serious look at our bodies.

Here are a few quick ideas for revitalising ourselves from our head down to our toes:

- The first thing to do is stand in front of the mirror and assess the full picture; take note of what needs attention - like those extra kilos that have crept on during the colder weather - remember to be kind to yourself. We can start introducing lighter meals, salads, fruits and smoothies and take advantage of the nice weather to get outside and walk.

- Next is a deep conditioning treatment for our hair. This can smooth and repair dry winter hair and bring back a healthy shine.

- Consider a trim or even a brand new style or colour to welcome the new season.

- It’s time to start phasing out the richer winter colours from our makeup and introducing some lighter, brighter shades.

- Body brushing will help to get rid of the dry, flaky dead skin caused by harsh weather and heaters. Use a loofah, natural bristle brush or exfoliating glove. Finish up with a brisk shower and all-over body moisturiser.

- It’s a good idea to keep a good hand cream in our handbags and apply it after every hand wash.

- Indulge in a manicure or apply your own and pick up some bright new nail polish colours to match our spring outfits.

- If you’re like me you've been hiding those legs under winter pants and are long overdue for a wax or shave. It’s time to uncover and apply a natural slow-tanning cream.

- Our feet are another long-neglected area. Hiding them away inside socks and winter boots can also allow dead skin to build up. We could consider a professional pedicure or look at some of the new do-it-yourself pedi-treatments.

If the budget allows, a new hat, a pair of funky sunglasses, and a super spring outfit will complete the process and we can step into spring with confidence.
