Every spring in my mother's house it was tradition to clean out all the dust and dirt, spruce things up, and get rid of anything that wasn't needed anymore. They would paint the whole house every two years. In between they would wash all the walls, floors, windows, doors and everything shined. It was fresh and clean, the smell of cleaner everywhere.

The one thing my parents never did was take stock internally. They needed to spring clean their insides to get rid of things that hurt them and caused resentments.

My parents turned into alcoholics and buried themselves in bottles, never looking past. They didn't take the time to see what this was doing to their children. They eventually succumbed to the dirt, scarring and hurts that they held in so tightly, never acknowledging that there were problems.

Even trees drop what they don't need anymore!

Alcoholics don't have the ability to see what is going on around them. All they can do is bury everything. The pain is too great and it only gets worse for them as time passes.

Everyone else is then left in their dust, to try to pick up their own pieces.

Don't let your life be lived from under a pile of hurts, resentments and scars that you carry around. You can perform a spring clean on yourself and set yourself free of the weight that burdens you.

It is difficult and scary. Yet there is so much out there to be thankful for. There is something to be said for freeing yourself, letting go of all the baggage and disappointments that you suffer.

I had always found it hard to tell myself it would be ok. I married a good man that helped. And then I found a wonderful naturopath with great insight who has helped find the answers that I needed to help heal myself. I am still a work in progress but I choose to live happy.

There are a whole range of people including psychologists, counsellors, holistic healers, Reiki masters, homeopaths, and spiritual healers to help. Whatever it takes, whatever works or whoever works for you, you owe it to yourself to live the best life you can.

Over the years numerous self-help books have come out. Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life sparked a whole movement. She talks about letting go of the hurts and pains you feel because they can manifest into diseases and muscular skeletal problems. Resentments are not worth carrying around, get rid of them.

Brene Brown's Daring Greatly states "how the courage to be vulnerable transforms the way we live, love, parent and lead". You can find her on TED Talks talking about vulnerability which is worth watching.

Carol Tuttle is an energy healer, Reiki master and has numerous tools to help you heal and get back into the business of living and loving yourself.
