Their theme is "Ideas worth spreading", and since its inception when it was a travelling conference back in 1984 it has grown exponentially. Then in 2007 they launched the website you are reading about.

The brain trust of magazine publishing entrepreneur Chris Anderson has grown to viral proportions. Thousands of people work, organise, promote, facilitate and expedite all that is TED. They are non-profit, have offices based in New York and Vancouver, still have yearly conferences in North America as well as global conferences that address different areas and groups.

They wanted to bring Technology, Entertainment and Design together so created a medium of talk where people from all of these industries could bring forth ideas. According to the TED website the thought was to "challenge the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers to give the talk of their lives in under eighteen minutes". The concept follows their theme "ideas should be spread" in the hopes of bringing our world closer together and has since opened the door to encompass other fields.

website as well as You Tube.
