It’s common for children to fall ill at the start of a new season. The changes in the weather can also bring quite a few allergies with them.

But if you or your family keeps falling ill for no apparent reason, it can be more than just the weather that’s at fault.

We’ve all been trying to work on pollution and saving the environment. What we don’t realise is that indoor pollution can be just as dangerous for us.

The first thing you need to do is identify where indoor pollution is lurking in your house. It can be anywhere from your HVAC unit to your bedroom mattress.

Unless you identify the source of the health risk, you cannot successfully eradicate it.

Here are some of the health hazards in your house and the ways you can keep yourself safe from them.

Mould and Fungus

Any places in your house that have moisture are at risk . Mould needs moisture to live, and if left untreated in the home the mould that is produced over time can negatively impact your health.

Coastal regions are humid and especially susceptible to mould. If you live in coastal city areas like Sydney and find mould anywhere in your house, it’s time to get help from a mould removal specialist.

You can quickly clean small areas of mould with soapy water and a rag, but you have to make sure that the area doesn’t stay moist for too long.

As for the larger patches, you might have to contact a professional.

Cockroaches

Not only are they revolting to look at, but they can also be a serious health hazard to your family.

A roach infestation can be made quite easily. A stray cockroach spotted your house and decided to stay. But it’s getting rid of this infestation that can be a hassle.

You can get rid of these pests by fixing up any leaks in the house as they reside in moist and dark places.

A regular cleaning routine will definitely help you get rid of cockroaches.

And if the condition prevails, contacting a qualified expert.

Asbestos

“Approximately one-third of all homes built in Australia”, writes Certified Pest and Building Inspection Services , in Newcastle, “contain asbestos products”. Many old houses built before 1980 contain asbestos in the building materials themselves. It is usually found in old floor tiles, in insulation systems and other areas.

Although it is still used in some houses nowadays, its dangers have made people vary.

As long as asbestos is not airborne, it doesn’t harm anyone.

But many times, if asbestos in the house gets damaged, it can release fibres into the air. The material can be quite dangerous and must be eliminated from the house.

Let a professional do the job for you and ensure the safety of your family.

Mice

Any cracks and holes in your house can make it vulnerable to a mice infestation. See any nibbled food in the kitchen? Or any suspicious little droppings in the pantry?

Rodents are capable of directly transmitting disease . So, you better get down to business and get rid of these health hazards. They carry diseases and exterminating them should be your highest priority.

You may have to hire an exterminator in order to get rid of these rodents as soon as possible.
