Problems arise when you consume too much caffeine - you start to experience the opposite of all those wonderful positive benefits - you may get cranky, irritable, have trouble focusing, and experience insomnia. And if you're completely dependent on coffee to get you through the day, or are using it as a crutch, you need to reevaluate your consumption.
Avoid caffeine in the five to six hours before bed and start weaning your consumption. Four cups of coffee per day is the upper limit for health and safety. There is no need to cut it out altogether - the key is to enjoy the benefits of caffeine consumption with a moderate daily intake.
