Ginger and cinnamon body scrub

This scrub is especially good for the colder months, because of the warming ginger and spicy smells that seem to remind people of cold weather and Christmas; but it really is beautiful all year round. It is especially a good gift idea for female friends who enjoy pampering themselves.

You will need
  • A jar or container to store your scrub in
  • A spoon to mix with
  • 2 cups of sugar of your choice (the rougher the sugar, the more harsh the scrub will be, the softer the more mild).

  • Estimate of 3 cups of your choice of oil (sunflower, olive etc)

  • 1.5 teaspoons ginger essential oil
  • 5 drops cinnamon essential oil

  • Please note: The amount of sugar and olive oil depends on your desired consistency of the scrub and how big your jar is. I prefer it to have a bit more oil so that it sits on the top.

    Method
  • Step 1.Gather your ingredients together, first adding your sugar into the jar.
  • Step 2. Pour in your olive or sunflower oil, continuously stirring until you reach your desired consistency of the scrub.

  • Step 3. Add your essential oils.
  • Step 4. Thoroughly mix the scrub to make sure oils are equally distributed. Also, smell the scrub and see if you think it needs any more essential oil (be careful not too add too much as smell can easily become overpowering).

  • Step 5. Now that your scrub is perfect and you feel wonderful for creating such a delightful smelling substance, decorate and label the jar as you please.

  • Health benefits
  • The sugar exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells and stimulating circulation.
  • Ginger essential oil has many benefits - it is warming and gets circulation going, it improves muscular stiffness and works for nausea and digestive issues. It energises the body and the mind.
  • Cinnamon essential oil is also good for promoting blood circulation, it is anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal. It has a long history of acting as a sexual stimulant and relieves muscle spasms and rheumatic pain.

  • Tips
  • Dry body brush before exfoliating with the scrub.
  • If you're going to shave your legs, do so after you use the scrub to avoid skin irritation.
  • Top off your at-home-spa experience by using a natural moisturiser or your choice of oil after your bath or shower.
