How to use lemon juice as a natural stain remover

Lemons are a fabulous, bountiful fruit and lend themselves to many culinary possibilities. They are also very useful around the home and make a great chemical free cleaner due to their acidic nature. Lemons additionally contain natural bleaching properties, making the juice an ideal alternative to store bought chemical filled stain removers.

Here's how to effectively lighten stains using only lemon juice:




As you can see, the tomato based stains are very noticeable on this white tee shirt. For comparison, I had previously used a commercial spray stain remover with no success.

To remove stains, simply cut the lemon in half, and squeeze the juice on the stubborn area. Apply liberally.

Place the item of clothing out in direct and full sunlight for a few hours. The combination of the lemon juice and natural sunlight is what activates the bleaching effect.
