Hygge What is it
"Hygge was never meant to be translated - it was meant to be felt." - ToveMaren Stakkestad

Hygge (pronounced
hue-gah or
hoo-ga), for those who don't know, is the latest international
lifestyle trend to (literally) embrace us all.
A
Danish word that doesn't actually have a direct English
translation, hygge loosely means a feeling or mood of
cosiness,
intimacy,
contentedness,
kinship,
security and/or
simplicity.

Created out of a necessity to remain
happy and
positive during the long
Scandinavian winters, hygge is now being practiced worldwide.
And there is good reason too.
Denmark is regularly voted one of the
happiest countries in the world, and their population experience
high levels of
health and
wellbeing. And it seems
hygge has a lot to do with this. Author
Helen Russell says, "hygge seems to me to be about being kind to yourself - indulging, having a nice time, not punishing or denying yourself anything."
What's not to love?
