Minimalism Discard first

Minimalism is one of the latest trends in health and lifestyle, offering a richer life lived with 'less'. It's gaining widespread attention for it's slower, more conscious and connected way of living in our busy, always-available 21st century.

Feeling inspired and ready to start your own minimalism journey?

Discarding is often recommended as the best first step, as this helps to get rid of excess and bring to light what is truly necessary.

First, set aside uninterrupted time to dedicate to the task. Some people and methods advocate doing this initial discard all at once and making an 'event' of it, however if this doesn't suit you, try a slow and steady approach instead.

Next, decide how you want to work through your belongings. Starting with less personal things is often the most effective. This means tackling clothes, kitchenware, household items and paperwork first, then moving on to books, keepsakes and photos once you've established some momentum.

However you decide to shape your initial discarding session(s), keep in mind the ultimate goal: to only keep things you actually need or love and cherish.

From here, (you may need to do another discarding session in a week, month, or whenever feels right), begin to organise your remaining belongings in the most efficient way, and savour the lightness and freedom that comes from living within your means.
