Quick Tip 39 Protect your skin from DIY hair dye

Posted 2014-03-03 by Jessica Dfollow
Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) is a chemical substance often used in hair dyes.

PPD can irritate the skin on your neck, forehead and ears, with allergic reactions ranging from itching and redness to more severe vomiting and anaphylaxis.

To avoid PPD penetrating your skin, apply a thick layer of organic lanolin to the ears, neck and forehead.

Lanolin is naturally derived from sheep's wool; its dense, wax-like layering will protect your skin from allergic reactions caused by DIY hair dyes.
